What Is It Like to Have Swine Flu? and What Can I Do to Avoid It?
Question by park youna: What is it like to have swine flu? And what can I do to avoid it?
I live in New Mexico and am planning to go to Denver, CO on Memorial weekend with my parents, a friend, and my fluffy dog. I plan to go to the zoo and the mall…
If I catch it, how bad would it be?
What can I do to not catch it?
(And can dogs carry around the virus?)

The first thing you will experience is the need to forage around garbage dumps. After two days, you will awake and find that your nose turned into a snout. How bad? Your parents might find it embarrassing at the mall when you start snorting. Your dog can only carry it around if it has a pocket. If you don´t want to catch it, hold your breath, or walk around with a Scott Air-pack.

Don’t be scared / worried. Have patience, take a deep breath and relax.
The World Health Organization (WHO) said that it was prepared with rapid containment measures including antivirals if needed to combat the swine flu outbreaks in Mexico and the United States. The Geneva-based agency has been stockpiling doses of Roche AG’s Tamiflu, known generically as oseltamivir, a pill that can both treat flu and prevent infection. The emergency committee could make recommendations including whether to change the pandemic alert level, but it would be up to Chan and the WHO.
We will not frighten or scare of swine flu but we should take adequate precautionary measure while we travel:
•Cover our nose and mouth with a tissue when we cough or sneeze. Throw the tissue in the trash after we use it.
•Wash our hands often with soap and water, especially after you cough or sneeze. Alcohol-based hands cleaners are also effective.
•We will avoid touching our eyes, nose or mouth. Germs spread that way.
• H1N1 is thought to spread mainly person-to-person through coughing or sneezing of infected people. If we get sick, CDC recommends that we stay home from work or school and limit contact with others to keep from infecting them.
•Early detection and treatment are key to stopping any outbreak of influenza / H1N1 / swine flu. WHO guidance calls for isolating the sick and blanketing everyone around them with antiviral drugs and symptom relief medicines such as Tamiflu.
We should follow our routine health and hygiene measures, encourage our kids to wash their hands well, and encourage them when they’re sneezing or coughing to cover up and prevent others from getting contact.

Swine flu can spread from person to person, mainly by exposure to coughing or sneezing. People may become infected by touching something with flu virus on it and then touching their mouth or nose. And, someone who has the flu is contagious even before he or she starts having symptoms.
