Milwaukee Drug Treatment: Drugs in Our Drinking Water – the Shocking Truth Revealed

Drugs in our drinking water are one of the most worrying factors affecting our health today. The sharp increase in the use of prescription drugs and our ineffective treatment plants combined is putting us at risk.

The list is endless but includes antibiotics, growth hormones and hormones like estrogen. These are present in the drinking water of around 50 million Americans, a shocking figure. There is a growing concern in the scientific community, that certain drugs or combinations of drugs in our drinking water may harm us over decades because water, unlike most specific foods, is consumed in sizable amounts every day.

No proper research has been carried out on the long-term effects and the federal government doesn’t require any testing and hasn’t set safety limits for drugs found in US drinking water. Another source is from animals as they are given steroids and at least 10% is not metabolized and passes straight through and into the water table.

Our treatment plants are not able to remove these drugs in our drinking water or many of the other potent ones, leaving us at risk of long-term health problems. The main reason is that it is just not cost effective for them to purify all our water as only a tiny amount is used for drinking.

That said however, when you shower you can absorb more than double the levels of chlorine and other synthetic chemicals which enter our body through skin absorption and inhalation of steam, than from drinking water. You may remember there was a case several years ago in Milwaukee, where over a hundred people died as a result of drinking tap water. Their supply had been infected with a microscopic parasite that may only cause a stomach ache, but it can also cause serious illness.

So how can we protect ourselves from drugs in our drinking water?

The most popular solution is to get a home filtration system of some kind. I would avoid the reverse osmosis types as they demineralize the water, robbing us of the essential minerals we need and are also very wasteful. Look for one that employs a multi-stage process and uses an active carbon filter and ion exchange to get rid of the heavy metals and other drugs found in US drinking water that normally come in under the radar of most systems. These are recommended by the US EPA are being the most effective, and will remove around 99% of all contaminants.

Also remember to check the manufacturers Performance Data Sheet to see exactly what they remove. I hope this information on drugs in our drinking water will spur you on to find the right solution for you to safeguard your family’s health not only for now, but for the long-term as well.
